ABOUT US E-DOCTOR WORLD is a privately-held company that was created for the specific purpose of providing technology-related services to TEREM Emergency Medical Services. Of late, E-DOCTOR WORLD has begun developing products for the remote delivery of medical services to a wide range of audiences. For an example of a large scale new project that E-DOCTOR WORLD is presently developing, please view the demo E-DOCTOR WORLD was established by senior administrative and medical personnel, the majority of whom are, or previously were, affiliated with TEREM. TEREM is currently the fastest growing center of clinical and academic urgent care medicine in Israel, and a leader in medical informatics. With a staff of some 220 including 80 physicians, TEREM currently runs five emergency medical centers together with primary care and specialty practices. Its senior medical management includes bi- and tri-lingual physicians many of whom are also UK, Canadian or US-licensed. Since its inception, E-DOCTOR WORLD has taken over the continuing development of TEREM’s electronic medical record and clinic management system, PARPAR. PARPAR is, to date, the product of 8000 person-hours of development. Every component has been customized to TEREM’s specific needs. PARPAR records demographic data, automates billing codes, allows for doctors to digitally enter a description of the patient encounter as well as the diagnoses, discharge instructions and tests performed. PARPAR also allows the physician to review previous clinical data. PARPAR has a wide range of tools for storing, distributing and archiving all X-rays done throughout TEREM. PARPAR scans and records all handwritten and printed materials related to the patient’s care. Overall, PARPAR provides a complete digital record of the patient visit. Recent additions to PARPAR include inventory ordering and distribution, recording and tracking of bacteriological cultures and a centralized data warehouse allowing for the quick criteria-based retrieval of patient information, both for chart review by senior physicians as well as clinical research. PARPAR continues to be developed in a wholly customized fashion. Each component of PARPAR is designed via a one-on-one interaction with TEREM staff. This model of programming, often referred to as “extreme programming”, minimizes the time between “thought” and “reality”. For example, when a physician requests a specific view of patient data, the designer sits directly with the physician, creates the design specification, clears it with the project leader and then implements the new tool. In practice, new tools can be added to PARPAR within days of the initial request. The success of PARPAR is very dependent on the infrastructure that supports it. Through the development of PARPAR, it was necessary to develop a high level of expertise with high-speed high-reliability Wide Area Network technology as well as high-level security. This expertise is a critical component when dealing with any project that involves sensitive medical information. A good deal of PARPAR’s success is due to the unique vision of its project leader, Dr Nahum Kovalski. Dr Kovalski earned a degree in computer science from McGill University before studying medicine and has managed to live a professional life that spans both medicine and computerized information system development. Dr Kovalski’s unified vision eliminates gaps of understanding between the medical users and system developers. In practice, this is one of the main reasons that new medical tools can be implemented so quickly into PARPAR. As of May 15, 2007, Dr Kovalski assumed the role of CEO of E-DOCTOR WORLD. E-DOCTOR WORLD has plans for extending its scope of products in the near future. E-DOCTOR WORLD is presently exploring the world of remote learning as well as remote delivery of medical information and real time medical consultation. E-DOCTOR WORLD is also presently testing a new software tool that will allow for remote radiological consultation.
